New phone

without comments

I just received my new phone, a Treo 680, and am testing how well its browser interoperates with Wordpress.

Update: it works pretty well.  :-)

Lisa’s new blog

without comments

Lisa has started a new blog: Godless Woman. Check it out!

In contrast to her old blog, which was more general in nature, Godless Woman is specifically atheism-related.

We’re homeowners!

with one comment

I said I was leaving, but I’ve changed my mind (for now). Lisa and I, as a newly-married couple, bought a house in Ypsilanti, MI.

House

We moved most of our furniture and possessions last weekend, and we’re cleaning up the last of our junk over the course of this month.

I’m back!

with 4 comments

Well, I haven’t posted anything in a while.

It hasn’t been due to a lack of time, because my life is (by design) not very busy.

It hasn’t been due to a lack of stuff to write about, either — cool tech stuff is still happening at work, the presidential campaigns are in full swing, I’m still enjoying shooting at the range, and delusional crackpots are still pissing me off. In other words, I could add to my “Tech”, “Politics”, “Guns”, and “Religion” categories fairly easily. :-)

Honestly, I just haven’t felt like writing.  If my (admittedly small) audience would post more comments, maybe I’d be inclined to spend more time writing.  :-)

Until next time…

Christmas Wish Lists

without comments

It has been requested that I prepare Christmas wish lists. I’m posting them here for the convenience of friends and family, but I wouldn’t turn down unsolicited gifts from blog-reading strangers, either. :-)

(And, for the record: no, I don’t think it’s hypocritical for atheists to celebrate Christmas. Celebrations of the winter solstice have been practiced far longer than has Christianity, which just co-opted these festivals and inserted mythology about a magical baby. In any event, the modern Christmas holiday is thoroughly secular anyway — trees, lights, cookies, shopping, Jingle Bells, Santa Claus, and flying reindeer don’t carry much religious significance.)

Blog Spam

without comments

This blog has been deluged with spam comments over the last few days. I was on vacation with limited Internet access, but now that I’ve returned, I have cleaned up all the spam and enabled two anti-spam measures: captchas and comment moderation.

Although your comments will be held until I have a chance to approve them, my comment policy still stands. I will delete them only in cases of spam, illegal content, or other obvious cases of abuse. Comments that disagree with my positions are fine; in fact, they are encouraged — I love good, healthy debate!

Need Web hosting?

I’d like to take a moment to plug our Web hosting service: KJChost. If you’re looking for a small, friendly, Linux-based Web host, drop us a line.

I’m not dead…

without comments

I haven’t abandoned the blog — I’m just on vacation. :-)

We’re having a great time doing “up north” stuff - boating, fishing, fireworks, road trips, etc. We’ll post a few pictures when we have a chance.

Random thoughts about stuff

with one comment

Hello, everyone.

After over a decade of telling myself that there was no point in doing so, I’ve finally decided to begin “blogging”.

My goals for this blog are twofold: to post semi-regularly and to avoid boring my readers to death. :-) How well I can meet those goals remains to be seen…

Seriously, though, my plans include:

  • Keeping my friends and family informed about things going on in my life.
  • Ranting about things that make me mad (and occasionally raving about the things that don’t).
  • Linking to interesting websites and sharing them with my audience.
  • Posting information about my technical projects, including Google-able solutions to problems.

I welcome comments on my posts. Yes, that means you. :-) The integrity of the public record is very important to me, and so I promise not to edit, mangle, delete, or otherwise mess with user-submitted comments unless there is a clear and obvious reason to do so (spam, illegal content, etc.).

Let the fun begin!
